VarsityXtra School Spirit

In an effort to keep this contest student-oriented, we've limited the number photos that count towards your school's total score to 1000.

If you've reached the limit for this contest, keep submitting your photos and we'll continue to proudly display them in our VX Pix section. Remember, every athlete can create a player profile and can add photos and information about themselves.

FYI: We tweaked the scoring system this season to keep the numbers from getting so huge. We're also giving more credit for player profiles.

Why do some schools get X points for profiles/photos/etc and other schools only get X points?

Schools receive points for each submission - photos, profiles, profile photos, etc - based on the enrollment of the school. It just didn't seem fair to us to give larger schools the same amount of points for each submission as smaller schools. So we developed this clever scoring system that takes a school's size into consideration. It's our way of leveling the playing field.

My school is so far behind. Is it even possible for us to catch up?

Yes, there's always time to catch up... unless the contest is over, of course. We're all about student participation, so we give more points for player profiles, player profile photos and scholar athletes. We've also made it so simple for you to submit photos for your school. Check out the 3 different ways you can submit photos on the VXPix page. While you're there, send some photos you took at the last game you were at.

I want to score a lot of points really fast. How can I do that?

The best way to increase your point total quickly is by encouraging athletes to complete a profile. While we can't tell you exactly how the points are calculated, we can tell you that you'll get the most points from Scholar/Athlete winners, player profiles and player profile photos (in that order). But you could also send in 50 pictures and, assuming the pictures are all good, score some huge points for your school.

I submitted some photos, but didn't get points for them. What's up with that?

Well, a couple of things could have happened.

  • If the photo isn't showing up on the VXPix page, it probably hasn't been approved or it was disapproved. If it was disapproved, you won't get points for it. You'll need to make sure that your photos follow the rules and aren't just pictures of the back of someone's head (unless their head is really, really cool). We won't approve duplicates or photos that are really similar. I guess you could say we're really picky.

  • If the photo is on the VXPix page, you probably didn't tell us which school you were submitting it for. You can e-mail us at varsity@evtrib.com and let us know which picture it is and which school you want the points to go to. It would help to include the date on the photo, too. Oh by the way, we're not going to just assign it to a school because someone told us to. You'll have to e-mail us from the same one you used when you gave us the picture.

  • I've got to get the word out to my school. What's the best way?

Well, today is your lucky day. We made some custom flyers for you to distribute around your school. Go ahead and print a bunch of flyers out to let your fellow students know exactly where your school stands on the leaderboard and what they can do to make sure you win it all. Just select your school and click "Get flyer". The flyer is a PDF, so you're going to need Adobe Reader to view and print it.
