Prep Highlights: Hamilton wins marathon game

Mikayla Gilbert and Lauren Anderson scored on a double by Stephanie Beuther in the top of the 11th inning, breaking a 4-4 tie and sparking Chandler Hamilton to a 6-5 win over host Tempe Marcos de Niza Monday in the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Softball Tournament.

Beuther went 3-for-6 and drove in two runs. Stephanie Rieck added two singles and an RBI for the Huskies.

Priscilla Valle went 2-for-5, including a double, and Karsyn Sprague added an RBI for the Padres.

Both starting pitchers, Megan Rossing of Hamilton and Kendra Perez of Marcos de Niza, worked all 11 innings.

SOFTBALL

Xavier won twice in the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Tournament.

In the first game, Caitlin Bayley hit two doubles and drove in five runs as the Gators beat host McClintock, 20-2. Tess Casey and Stephanie Janes each added two RBIs for Xavier. In the second game, Sarah Stengel went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs for the Gators in a 16-1 win against Avondale La Joya. Janes went 4-for-4 and scored four runs for Xavier (13-1). ...

In the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Tournament, Landry Davis scored the game-winning run on a single by Megan Johnson with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Seton Catholic beat Apache Junction, 9-8, at Marcos de Niza. Kaela Carrieres went 4-for-5 and Kelsey Rodriguez drove in four runs for the Sentinels. Shelby Olson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Prospectors. ...

Holly Phillips scored the deciding run on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Muniz in the top of the seventh inning as Mountain Pointe beat Corona del Sol, 5-4, at Marcos in the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Tournament. Vanessa Alvarez had a double and two RBIs for the Aztecs.

BASEBALL

Nick Lira hit a one-out double to score Joey Roacha and give Mountain Pointe a 7-6, eight-inning victory over Arcadia in the McClintock-Saguaro Invitational at McClintock High School.

Eric Klem pitched the final three innings and struck out five batters to earn his first win. Klem also went 2-for-3 with a double. Klem relieved Jake Waldron, who went five innings with four strikeouts. Waldron also went 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI...

Corona del Sol scored four runs in the seventh inning to beat host Saguaro 7-3 in the McClintock-Saguaro Invitational. Trevor Allen hit a double to score Aaron Foshie for the go-ahead run. Justin Klett then hit a single to score Allen followed by Evan Reitchey’s two-run home run to cap off the four-run rally.

Allen finished with two hits, both doubles, and two RBIs. Kirby Pellant pitched the final two innings to earn his first win.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Kete Meskill recorded 20 assists and three blocks as Basha defeated host Glendale Ironwood, 25-19, 25-18, 25-12. Blake Walden and Anthony Alvarez each added eight kills for the Bears (5-0).

BOYS TENNIS

James Warnz (6-1, 6-1) and Michael O’Conner (6-1, 6-1) each won in singles and later teamed to win in doubles (8-2) for host Brophy in a 8-1 win over Highland. Chris Fazzulo got the lone win for the Hawks.

Please correct spelling of Sophmore-Mountain Pointe High School baseball player to Joey Rocha instead of Roacha as you will be seeing him in the future. Thanks and keep up the great work you do.
