SIERRA VISTA - A reverse on an official’s call on Mesa Dobson’s first series of the second half spelled disaster for Sierra Vista Buena as the Mustangs beat the Colts 27-10 Friday.

SLIDESHOW: Friday night prep football action

Buena had cut Dobson’s lead to 14-10 at the half when an official signaled that Buena had recovered the ball on its own 25 after a Mustang receiver fumbled the ball. But an official who was closer to the play overruled the call and Dobson maintained possession. Two plays later the Mustangs scored their third TD for a 21-10 lead.

Dobson got on the board in the first quarter on a 20-yard pass play from quarterback Jordan Gruber to Tyler French. After Buena knotted the score at 7 -7 in the second quarter, Dobson countered with a Terrance Martin 37-yard TD run that capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive for a 14-7 lead.

With time running down in the half, the Colts drove from their own 10-yard line to the Mustang 16, but with three seconds to play in the half, had to settle for a 33-yard field goal as time expired.

The Mustangs’ final score came on a 17-yard run by Dylan Cortez with 7:26 to play.

“We have to respond no matter what happens,” Buena coach Kent Holland said. “We need to keep focused and keep the momentum and keep going in the right direction."
