There was no need for a miracle finish this time for Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep.

SLIDESHOW: Friday night high school football

A year after defeating Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain on a 46-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass on the game’s final play, the No. 1 Saints had their way with the Bears on Friday.

The defending 4A Division-II state champions looked every bit the part as they cruised to a 27-0 victory at Scottsdale Community College.

“Last year was a very wild game . . . a lot of stress,” said running back Patrick Foley, who had 117 yards combined rushing and receiving and two touchdowns.

There was virtually none for the Saints in this meeting. Notre Dame found the end zone on its first two possessions and by halftime had a 20-0 lead.

“It seemed like (Bradshaw Mountain) couldn’t stop (our offense),” linebacker Anthony Greco said. “Our defense was good. We all kept to our assignments.”

Quarterback Shane Wolfe, who played just over two quarters, led the way, completing 7-of-13 passes for 202 yards and two scores.

He was taken out, as was most of the first-team offense, after his 46-yard connection with Foley early in the third quarter put the Saints ahead 27-0.

“We were running the ball and throwing the ball well and got guys out of there in the second half to get some other guys some reps. That’s what we wanted to do,” coach Scot Bemis said.

Notre Dame outgained Bradshaw Mountain in total offense 323-156.

The game was delayed for 30 minutes early in the third quarter as the Bradshaw Mountain medical staff and paramedics attended to Bears receiver Jacob Dembaugh. The senior suffered a neck injury when he landed helmet first on an irrigation box near the Bradshaw Mountain sideline after attempting to catch a pass. Dembaugh had feeling in his extremities, acting head coach Ron Fuson said, but as a precaution, he was strapped to a stretcher and taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

“He had some numbness and some pain in the neck area,” said Fuson, who added Dembaugh kept a positive attitude. “I think he was kind of recovering (while down on the ground). It was one of those tough hits you don’t expect. It looked like a whiplash-type of an injury.”
