The score, taped on the lockers of the Scottsdale Christian football players, was 32-0. Redemption was on the Eagles' minds after a 32-0 loss to Arizona Lutheran a year ago and on Friday, Scottsdale Christian erased all memories from last year with a dominating 34-7 win over visiting Arizona Lutheran in a 2A nonregion game.
SLIDESHOW: Friday night high school football
Scottsdale Christian was led by running back Jake Storrer's 12 carry, 162-yard performance.
"You want to come out and play every game hard," Storrer said. "But this was a little bit more than a game. Winning this game was a little extra important to us."
At the conclusion of the first quarter, the two teams were locked in a scoreless tie. In the second quarter, the Eagles were able to take advantage of seven Coyotes turnovers. A 32-yard run by Storrer set up a Jeff Matney 1-yard touchdown run with 11:13 left in the second quarter. The Eagles recovered a fumble with 4:12 remaining in the half. Storrer, lined up as quarterback, threw an 18-yard pass to wide receiver Brett Miller, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Miller recovered a fumble at midfield that set up a 15-yard Jeff Matney touchdown run.
After another Arizona Lutheran fumble was recovered by Evan Villavaso at the 22-yard line, Storrer put the game away with a 78-yard scoring run.
"It's hard to tell right now how we are playing," Scottsdale Christian coach Jeff Fox said. "I don't know how we are doing at this point. I am very pleased with our performance, and I felt like we blocked very well."
"There is no doubt that Scottsdale Christian was the better team than us tonight," Arizona Lutheran coach Jake Sterrer said. "There are many things that we have to work on to become a better team. Tonight really exposed our weaknesses."

SCA's leading rusher was Jake Storrer and ALA's coach is Jake Sterrer? Coincidence? Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 13, 2008
