The Brophy Broncos stomped the Horizon Huskies 45-13 in a game that never looked close Friday night at Phoenix College.
SLIDESHOW: Friday night high school football
The Broncos got started early when running back Max Leonesio busted a 60-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, leading to a Brophy touchdown.
Leonesio would go on to rush 16 times for 182 and two touchdowns before coach Scooter Molander rested him in the second half.
Quarterback Beau Maggi’s efficiency also helped put this one away early. He completed 6 of 11 passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns before coming out early in the third quarter.
Brophy’s ability to stop the run and get pressure on Huskies quarterback Ryan Stanford made Horizon’s night difficult. At the end the first half, Brophy led 31-0. Horizon had just 2 yards on the ground, 40 through the air and two turnovers.
Stanford played better late in the game, going 5-for-12 for 75 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
But it was classic instance of too little, too late.
To make matters worse for the Huskies, De’Saan Hardwick scored on a 90-yard kickoff return with under a minute to play to cap off the scoring.
Hardwick had also hooked up with Maggi for a 41-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
