Gilbert High’s Megynn Caffall won the 5A-I Fiesta Region badminton singles tournament, beating Mesa Desert Ridge’s Rebecca Veach, 11-3, 11-1 Wednesday at Gilbert Mesquite.

Chandler’s Kasey Evans finished third after beating Gilbert Mesquite’s Julie King, 11-9, 11-3, but King’s Wildcats beat out Evans’ Wolves for the team championship. The top four finishers earned an automatic berth into the state tournament.

In doubles, Chandler’s duo of Olivia Li and Kristen Morrissey pulled out a 9-15, 15-9, 17-14 victory in the finals over Mesquite’s Stephanie Hagelsieb and Molly Imsuchart .

Girls Golf

Kimberly Kim shot a 6-under 24 at Augusta Ranch Golf Club as her Xavier squad shot a 110, beating out Highland (146) and St. Mary’s (188).

Boys Golf

Gilbert’s Caleb Cox was the only player under par with a 1-under 35 at Chandler’s Ocotillo Golf Course, but Hamilton won the overall total with a score of 191. Cox’s Tigers finished second with 206 points, followed by Chandler (232) and Mesquite (237). Hamilton’s Chun Ji Kim and Ken Iida finished tied with second at 36 .
