Prep highlights: Mountain View boys win tournament in Nevada

Asaad Woods scored 22 points to help the Mesa Mountain View boys basketball team win the Wild West Shootout on Saturday in Reno, Nev., with a 58-44 victory over Reno High.

Nathan Murphy scored 12 points for the Toros (6-0). Mountain View forward Eric Hunt, who had four points, was named tournament MVP.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Behind Chris Lewis’ 19 points, host Red Mountain beat Yuma Kofa 74-43. Jeff Bunker had 10 points for the Mountain Lions (7-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mountain View won the third-place game at the La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day Sweet 16 Tournament, beating Archbishop Mitty 52-44. Jennifer Schlott led the Toros (5-1) with 15 points and Erica Olsen had 10 points and eight rebounds. Lia Kioa added nine points and five assists. Both Schlott and Kioa were named to the all-tournament team.

Stephanie Stamas scored nine points as Scottsdale Christian beat 39-33 Phoenix Bourgade Catholic in the Phoenix Country Day Tournament at Valley Lutheran. Hillary Hellestrae, who scored six points for the Eagles (5-3), was an alternate selection for the all-tournament team.
