Prep notebook: Mountain View's Brooke Jackson going to BYU

By Les Willsey, Tribune

Mesa Mountain View shooting guard Brooke Jackson is headed to Brigham Young University this fall to play basketball, Toros coach Henry Bribiescas said Tuesday.

Jackson completed a brilliant four-year career in March by leading the Toros to a runner-up finish in 5A Division I. She averaged 18 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 4.8 steals per game. Mountain View reached the 5A semfinals in 2005-2006 with Jackson leading the way. Jackson holds all but one career record of consequence at Mountain View. She also holds the state single-season scoring record for the 5A conference, tallying 849 points in the 2005-2006 season.

Jackson also was a standout volleyball player at Mountain View.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Chandler Basha High School girls basketball coach Felicia Boatman is leaving to return home.

Boatman is headed back to her native New Mexico to be a teacher in her hometown of Albuquerque to be near her entire family.

Boatman coached the Bears to the state tournament all three years of the program’s existence.

SOCCER

Brittany Cole of Corona del Sol High School has been named the Gatorade Arizona Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

The junior forward had 31 goals and 11 assists this winter for the Aztecs, who capped a 23-3-2 season with a Class 5A Division I state championship. Cole scored the game-winning goal in the state title game for the second year in a row—a 2-0 victory over Desert Vista.
